Householder planning permission secured at appeal for substantial Green Belt extensions

In 2026, Collins Planning secured householder planning permission at appeal for substantial extensions to a property in Alveston, South Gloucestershire, resulting in a significant increase in the property’s floor area.

The original planning application was refused by the local council because the proposed extensions would result in a cubic volume increase to the existing dwelling that would not normally be supported under local planning policy.

Collins Planning successfully challenged the refusal at appeal by applying recent changes to national planning policy and demonstrating that the proposal should be considered differently in light of the updated approach to development in the Green Belt.

The appeal was successful, and planning permission was secured for the proposed extensions.

This project demonstrates Collins Planning’s experience in Green Belt planning, householder planning applications and planning appeals, as well as our ability to identify and apply changes in national planning policy to challenging residential development proposals.
